Approximate Purchase Date: Within a month, maybe a little sooner

Budget Range: Doesn't matter; for what she needs it shouldn't cost much anyway

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Internet, playing solitaire, listening to music

Are you buying a monitor: No

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Whatever is least expensive including shipping, sales tax is not an issue

Location: Oregon

Parts Preferences: by brand or type: Intel CPU, Asus MOBO

Overclocking: No

Your Monitor Resolution: She has a Sony LCD monitor, not sure about the resolution.

Additional Comments: She doesn't want a tower case, only one that will sit horizontally on the computer desk. She has keyboard, mouse, monitor, soundcard, and speakers. Needs case, SSD, MOBO, CPU, RAM, and DVD/CD burner. I plan on using the Intel HD Graphics 4600. The integrated graphics on my 2600K looked funny when watching videos so I was forced to buy a card. I hope the 4600 quality is better than the 3000 was.

I plan on buying an Intel i3 4370

I was considering this case but am always open to alternatives. It comes with a PSU, that's why I didn't include one on the list of things to buy.

RAM: I think 4GB should be plenty. Please suggest what to get.
SSD: I think 120GB would be enough. Prices on them have come down a lot the past few years so it's tempting to get a larger one but why buy more than is needed? I got an Intel for mine but apparently Samsung is one of the best. Please suggest what to get.
MOBO: The case will only fit a Micro ATX board as will most HTCP cases I think. Once again, please suggest what to get.

This should be a huge improvement over her Pentium 4 and HDD. Now I'll just need to convince her to dump the DSL and get cable.

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

she already has a 2600k build? then just add in a low end video card to fix any playback issues..(not that there should be any if all shes watching is 720p/1080p video)

maybe go into bios and add more dedicated ram for video playback on the integrated gpu.
if you have an o.s disk and want to cure slow performance then the quickest thing to do is fresh install remembering to download the motherboards drivers.

No fun in just going to BestBuy and buying it. I want to build it the way I want it, not the way some corporation has decided how put it together. Part suggestions/compatibility is what I was looking for.

I understand that building one yourself is more fun. What does your customer, Mom, want?

The 2600K was one I built for myself a couple of years ago. I'm looking for suggestions for one I will be putting together for my mother in a couple of weeks.
