Hello,

I have built a new computer with a MSI R9 390 Gaming 8G GPU, however when the video driver was installing, the screen turned to black for a second before jumping to the proper 1920x1200 resolution that my monitor is, but the picture (this is the Windows 8 desktop btw) looks like this:

I have no idea what is up here. I thought restarting my computer would fix the issue but it didn't. Windows says that it's running at 1920x1200 with 32-bit colors, but that looks closer to an 8-bit color scheme than anything else.

Solution

Where did he say his OS was 32 bit? Reffering to '32 bit colour' means the colour depth of the pixels (32 bits per pixel) and is something different entirely.

Reguardless I think he needs to download the latest driver direct from AMD: www.amd.com

Seemingly, it seems that the only driver available for Windows 8 for your graphics card is in 64-bit.

So it seems, seemingly, that you'll need to reinstall windows 8 to be 64-bit.

My source, so it seems, is the AMD website. When you choose a driver manually, the only selection available is the 64-bit for Windows 8.

Seemingly so, it seems.

He said 32 bit color, but what if he meant 32 bit operating system? He also said he just installed the driver, and now he's getting problems. I went on the amd website, and they don't have his driver in 32 bit. That's why I gave that answer.

I have the 64-bit version of Windows 8.1.

I've updated to Windows 8.1 from 8 in-case that was the issue, I then reinstalled the latest driver for my card from both the AMD site and the MSI site, but neither have worked.

That's really strange. So have you tried changing the colour depth to 16 bit? Does that make a difference?

Also will the card run any games at all? If not it could be a faulty card- if you haven't had it long you might want to return it and get a replacement.
