Best Linux for old laptop?

Hi all,

I have recently acquired an old Panasonic laptop from a relative, which was freshly formatted. I will not be installing Windows on it and as such, require another alternative. Due to the age of the machine, I am struggling to find a suitable operating system and would appreciate any suggestions.

The specifications are as follows:

266 MHZ Pentium 2 MMX Processor
96 MB (approx.) RAM
4 GB HDD

Solution
Something like TinyCore Linux would be best suited since you have minimal RAM. Puppy Linux may also be a ok choice.

The biggest issue you will have is running a browser. You will not be able to run a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox or any other browser that has a javascript engine really. I suggest using something like netsurf:
