Here's my specs and a video of the problem. Not sure if you can see it too well but every couple of seconds the game will freeze and then start again.

Yesterday I was playing fine with my second monitor plugged in which is 60 hz. My main monitor is 144 hz gsync. Today, when I turned on my computer and started playing, it just started to do this and I don't know how to fix it.

Problem is your GTX 970 is starting to utilize over the 3.5GB of high speed GDDR memory and going into the 512MB of low speed memory. It is a known issue specifically around the GTX 970.

This happened to me until I threatened EVGA with a law suit and got all my money back, even with the card being over 6 months old. When you advertise 4GB of ram it should be all the same.

The game I'm playing isn't even in 1080p, it definitely isn't using anything close to 3.5GB

Tell that to the GTX 660, GTX 660 Ti, and any other cards set up like that. The real problem was that Nvidia initially lied about specifications, not what the specifications were.

This might be an issue with the card getting confused with having a regular monitor and a Gsync monitor plugged in at once. When you first plugged it in, the computer didn't have an issue, but after a shutdown and power on, the software change was finalized and that's where the confusion started. This is jsut a theory. Let's test it by unplugging the secondary monitor, restarting, and playing the game for a while. If the issue is gone, then plug in the second monitor and try playing the game again without restarting. If it still works, then restart and see if it changes.

If the issue persists even after the first attempt at removing the monitor, then we'll have to think of something else to try.

My windows did have an update last night but that's it

I'll have to go through each update and see if there's anything that stands out... If nothing does, then we'd have to try removing them one at a time to see if any of them are the problem. It would really suck if it turns out it is something else and not a Windows update. I'll try to see if anything else could cause this issue before trying something so drastic. This is an odd issue indeed, especially considering how non-intensive the game is in which you're having difficulty. I watched the video and it was very noticeable.

I see you know next to nothing about 144hz requirements. but yes you are capping out your memory, why do you think you have vRAM? LOL whatever and good luck.

Higher refresh rates don't mean you need more memory. Furthermore, the monitor isn't going to be actually running at 144Hz- It's a Gsync monitor- unless the frame rate is that high.

That is a low resolution, unintensive game. It doesn't even need 1GB. You didn't watch the video, eh?

Even if you know something we don't, insulting the person looking for help is an asshole way of going about it, especially since you didn't try explaining WHY such a game could need 4GB jsut because of the monitor having a max refresh rate of 144Hz.
