I've heard that 8 GB is all you need for gaming. I use 8 gigs right now and it's fine I think, but would I need more if I have several apps open while doing it or alt tabbing to do more?

Basically sometimes I go from games to Chrome with multiple times with Spotify open. I also use Nexus Mod Manager a lot for Skyrim and I'm constantly moving back and forth.

Would it be beneficial to have 12-16 GB instead?

Solution
Best bet is to open task manager when you are doing what you described above and see how much ram you are using. If its above 6 maybe 7 gigs then upgrade, otherwise I would wait.

More ram doesn't equal better performance unless your ram utilization is way up in the 90's.

Where more RAM starts to come into play is woth more games growing to 40GB in size, the game wants to pre load as much as available and it looks at what is there and says "I'll take this". If there's more there, it takes more and you'll have less swapping out to disk.

You can also do the RAM drive thing ...

8 min, 16 is a plus

Well I use heavy 2-4k resolution textures in ENB Skyrim, I do know that it gets around 80-90% with that enabled. As for Witcher 3, I haven't checked. Made this comp about 3 years ago, just wondering if its time to get those 8 gb sticks yet.

Appreciate the input guys :)
