I have Sony VAIO (model: svs15116fxb) and just got a Samsung 850 Pro Series MZ-7KE256BW 2.5" 256GB SSD. I put the SSD into the laptop today booted from windows installation disk and when I got to "where do you want to install windows?" prompt there are no disks listed. I did "refresh" did not help (Pic 1). But here is something really weird, if I click on "Load Driver" button, I am actually able to see the SSD once I click "browse" button (Pic 2).

I checked from BIOS side and I am able to see the disk in there. (Pic 3).

That is the first thing that I started to look for. However, Samsung does not provide a separate driver that I can download and load during the install process. Does anyone know where I can get one?

When you're at the step where you choose the SSD, hit shift-F10 to pull up a command prompt.

type "diskpart" and hit enter
type "list disk" and hit enter
if your SSD is listed as disk 0, then type "select disk 0"
(If it's not, then you need storage drivers for whatever sata device the SSD is plugged into.)
type "clean"
close command prompt and click refresh on the "where do you want to install windows?" window.
It should appear.

If cleaning wasn't an option, you can only put the SSD into another PC, and run the clean command.
As a last resort, Samsung has a bootable "Secure Erase" disk, which will do the above and more.

This is something I did as well and it did not help... I ended up cloning the disk from existing mechanical disk and then it worked. But I wanted to do the clean install of windows directly on SSD. Looks like default Windows 7 install simply does not have the driver for SSD. Strange...
