Due to a recent trip to a swap meet I am now the "proud" owner of about a dozen used Seagate SAS drives (Cheetah 15k.7 ST3600057SS) and I wanted to find out if they were still functional, honestly to be able to sell them on Ebay so I could cash them in for enough money to get a decent SSD for actual use. My issue is that I don't want to spend a hundred bucks (or more) on a high end interface card just for testing purposes. Does anyone know of an inexpensive interface solution I can use?

You might be able to find an old server with a sas controller in it to test the drives for cheap. Problem would be shipping unless you could find it locally. If you knew anyone that worked with enterprise hardware you might be able to talk them into letting you test the drives on a machine they had that wasn't in production.

Not sure on an option for connecting them to a desktop other then buying a controller as you had mentioned.
