im getting aacer aspire laptop that comes with a 1tb hd. there is room for an additional ssd. but since the OS is already on the hdd, how do i move it to the ssd?

You can simply clone the OS using the migration/cloning software that usually comes with the solid-state drive. There are a lot of third-party utilities as well, you can refer to this thread for suggestions:
