Worried about my CPU based on AMD Overdrive

Hi there, I have an AMD A10-7400K @3.7 and had a few questions regarding readouts I'm getting in AMD Overdrive. Every now and again a single core will shoot above the max frequency when idle (I haven't overclocked) and when gaming all 4 cores will go above and below max frequency rapidly up to about 3,880 Ghz. I was curious as to whether this is just a faulty readout, or if AMD Overdrive automatically overclocks when open or something. It's especially worrisome because when running Overdrive while in game, my thermal margin appears to gradually get smaller and smaller. I'm never gaming for quite long enough to see if it'll just peak and overheat, and it appears I can leave Witcher 3 open for quite some time without incident without overdrive running. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would very much like to keep my APU from melting down.

Solution
A single core that runs faster is normal because your system never is fully idle; there always are background tasks that will run for a few milliseconds or more. What are the thermal margins at load? As long as they stay in the double digits you're fine. If they get down to 0°C, the the CPU throttles which isn't good for the CPU or performance.
