AMDRazer :
Hello, I have a Dell Optiplex 745 with a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 with a 160GB Western Digital Caviar Blue drive. Can I power an ASUS R7 250 1GB with the power supply?
Here are PSU Specs:
Dell H275P-01
+5V /18A, +3.3V /5A
+12V /17A
-12V /0.5A, +5VFP /4A
+5V and +3.3V must not exceed 106W
MAX output 275W
I was not here for a while, but could not pass this post due to bunch of very educated answers. I was the same about 3 years ago, not anymore.
First take a look on this card ASUS R7250-1GD5 Radeon R7 250 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G28N5466
I can not see any supplemental power supply anywhere, so card is actually uses only 75 watt (provided by PCIE slot) or less. If in doubt, check newegg specification tab
"System Requirements
Power Consumption: up to 75Wno additional PCIe power required"
Case closed, your power supply is perfect for a job.
However there is one issue left, which was overlooked by all of you - will this card physically fit inside BTX case, oops.
Well , I went extra mile and checked Asus site http://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/R72501GD5/specifications/
It is 16 cm or 6.3 inches long, so it fit in Mini Tower for sure, I hope you have MT not DT, see below:
This is actual Optiplex 755 lineup, which is almost the same as 745, I took this part from previous posts, edit a bit, it is still applicable here.
So if you have Mini Tower
I think I have to step in since not so many users know the limitations of Optiplex Mini Tower cases - this is not your typical small ATX case, it is BTX case, and not all video cards can fit, so I will provide you all with small guide into Optiplex MT GPU upgrading.
THIS POST APPLICABLE TO MT (MINI TOWER) FORM FACTOR ONLY.
Unfortunately no card that is more than 7.5 inches long or 2 slots wide will PHYSICALLY FIT inside the case - it was found that only single bracket video card can fit due to BTX MOBO, where card internals facing upward towards PC internals, not ATX, where dual card design is blocking another PCI slot by facing downward.
If you prefer the card with beefier fan, then the length of the card must not exceed 7.5 inches, otherwise only "skinny" single bracket, single slot cards can physically fit.
Pictures below will prove my point.
View shows no room for dual bracket
Single bracket only, or you have to cut dual bracket in half
This is the other way to show my point
Here you can clearly see only single place for the bracket
Visual explanation
7.5 inches explained, also shown "obstacles"
This is the picture of actual "skinny" single slot video card (not sure which model)- perfect, "glove" fit.
So, you completely cleared, the only downside you will have that your card will be limited by PCIE limitations, your slot is at best 2.1, so you will loose some bandwidth.
Anything else I can help you with?
