My friends computer fell asleep last week and wouldn't turn on. He unplugged the psu, plugged it back in and tried it to no avail. He bought a new psu, i installed it, and after hitting the power button on the case about 10 times it finally posted. However, now he is having the same issues. The Mobo is getting power because i can see the green light, and there are no red ones indicating some kind of failure. I will try to re-seat the memory to see if that is the issue. (could it possibly be the case? Maybe the switch cable is bad?) I built his computer about 3 months ago and haven't had any issues until last Friday. Any other suggestions are welcome! The specs are below:

Asus z97
i7-4790k
8 gb memory
gtx 460
Ultra gladiator mid tower case
850w evga gold psu
corsair hydro H90
1TB seagate

The switch can be bad. To test that, if you have a jumper like on older motherboards or hard drives, you can put the jumper on the same two pins that the switch is on if it fits, then take it off immediately afterward. If the computer turns on and works with no trouble, then it is the switch. I have seen a few bad switches before, but it's not very common in my experience. If the jumper doesn't fit or you don't have one, you just need to connect the two pins that the switch uses some other way without touching any other pins. Almost any small metal object can work, although it's probably best to use something where you aren't touching the metal with your bare skin (maybe wear a glove?).

If the computer doesn't turn on the first time you try it, then don't try it again. The switch isn't the problem.

It's possible the motherboard itself is what is failing too. I have a computer that posts only about once every ten times I power it on and it seems to be because the motherboard's batter is dead. If your system does power on, but never posts, then this is a likely possibility.
