Hard Drives Swapped in RAID 5 Array

So long story short, a Windows 10 slow track install on my rig failed and I had to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch. This wasn't a big deal since I have all my games on a separate SSD and my media on a separate RAID 5 array of some random drives I had accumulated.

The copy of Windows 7 I have is pretty old, so it is only an upgrade disk for Vista (i.e. I have to install Visa and then upgrade to Windows. I noticed while VISA was booting up that the SSD had replaced one of the hard drives in the RAID 5 array and that HDD was no longer in the array. I have no earthly idea how this could have happened.

Is there a way to remove the SSD from the array and add the HDD back in?

The data from the RAID array is still in tact, but I'm not sure if the SSD has been overwritten.

Thanks in advance for your help!

It is rebuilding so YES the SSD is being over written. You will want to tread VERY Carefully here.

First off since it is rebuilding the data on the SSD is gone for the most part. At this point this is what i would do.

Let it rebuild. Find a drive big enough to store ALL your RAID 5 data - Copy it all off. Go back in, break the RAID 5, remake with proper drives.

Also i would make the SSD's on SATA ports 0 and 1 and then the RAID 5 drives 2 3 4 or 3 4 5.

It may have for some reason taken the SSD due to what ever reason the other drive is now a offline member.

Also on the whole Vista Upgrade thing if you download a windows ISO of what ever version of windows you have the upgrade for (Ie pro ect) you should be able to just use...

The other way would be to remove the SSD (disconnect SATA connector) and see if it rebuild with the other hard drive or try to add the other hard drive back to the RAID 5. Either way BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST!
