Hi guys, just odd experiment today.
I copy file from external HDD to internal HDD, speed is 90mb/s, i think usb 3.0 is ok here
then
i copy file from internal HDD to external HDD, speed is whopping 180mb/s, then down to 50 mb/s T_T

Why the sudden drop speed copying from my internal HDD?

Basic is all checked:
I use 3.0 cable
external hdd is connected to 3.0
internal hdd has 7200 rpm (seagate 2tb barracuda)

Basically read operations are faster than writes. The speed of both is above the 32MB/s of USB2 so you are running at USB3 speeds, just limited by the speed of the external drive. Most external drives are only 5400 RPM drives.

Is it the same file or a different file?

USB itself has a lot of overhead and is different when transferring from than to. The other side depends on the HDD that the external drive is using. It might have higher sustained read rates than write rates which is common with most HDDs.

It is a same file, 1 big 5 gb movie.

I also tested copying from external to my SSD is 500mb/s
but copying from SSD to external has the same dropping to 50mb/s also.

Ok does that mean my external HDD write speed is quite low, which create this speed bottle neck from internal? correct me if im wrong
