Is it safe to power a graphics card from a PSU in a 2nd/seperate computer?

The desktop I want to test my video card in (since my primary has no on board video and I'm trying to diagnose what died or needs replacing in it.) doesn't have a proper PSU to support the power draw. However my primary one does. So I'm wondering If I can put my graphics card into the lower end desktop that obviously has it's own PSU inside and have only the graphics card powered/connected to my primary desktop which has the proper PSU requirement to power it? And by doing this can I safely turn on both at about the same time safely or should I turn one on before the other for a second or two first? If this is likely to cause damage let me know.

Yes I realize I could fully disconnect both PSU's and temporarily switch it out but this seems simpler and since I got myself quite curious about it I'd like to know. Also it is only to test my existing graphics card out in another build to see if the card works or if it is indeed fried/dead (without having to spend extra $$$ on a cheap video card since I have none around + beep code suggests vid card issue [I tried it in both PCI slots on my gaming build so I suspect the card died as well as testing with different memory/ram configurations just in case since I had spare ram].
