Hi,
I have an ASUS Maximus Formula 7 motherboard,
I wanted to know if my Corsair Dominator Platinum 2x 8gb, 2666 Mhz RAM card will be compatible with it.

If yes, what can I do to get the most out of this configuration.

Also, I have an EVGA GTX 980, what should be the ideal power supply requirement for this setup ?

The ram will work with your motherboard at least according to the manual...

I suggest you get a platinum power supply that has 760 or 860 watts because it seems like you want to overclock and you might sli in the future.

Based on your extravagant ram I'm assuming that you don't mind spending a bit more however a 550 gold power supply will be enough for your system with some overclocking. Something like the RM 550 or a comparable Seasonic or Bequiet power supply should do it for you.

The mobo will handle it, the real question is will your CPU which is the determining factor as the MC (memory controller) is in the CPU, will want a K model CPU, else you'll be looking at running that nice DRAM at maybe 1866 or 2133 max with a non-K CPU

Thanks for you reply guys.

I have an intel i7 4790K 4 ghz processor to go with.
Everything powered by a Corsair RM1000 1000Watt gold rated PSU.

The reason for my question being. I put up the system together recently. I had an ASUS Maximus Hero 7 mobo then.
It worked perfectly well for 2 weeks.
But, I directly powered off the system once(without shutting down) and following that the system never turned on.
On further inspection, I found that the motherboard wont power ON even with the on board switch.
This made me immediately turn to the power supply.
The power supply failed the paper clip test following which I hooked the system up to another 760 watt PSU which still won't turn the MOBO on.
For the time being I am having the power supply replaced and have returned the motherboard.
I am getting an Asus Maximus formula 7 this time.

The fact that I do not know what exactly went wrong scares me.
I have powered my old desktop before a lot of times, I expected this extravagant setup to atleast handle this once.
