Hello fellow PC brethren and sister-thren.

Just yesterday I upgraded from my GA-970-DS3P MoBo & FX-6300 CPU to a 4790k and an ASRock Z97 Extreme3 Mobo. Worked great, overclocks were nice but temps were a little high. So I attempted to under volt the CPU just to see if I could lower the temps. The Mobo did NOT like that at all and my PC would restart but it wouldn't boot. Face-palming, I unplugged the power, reset the CMOS, and plugged the power in again.

This time it wouldn't even turn on. (No lights or anything) After trying a million times I managed to get the PC to boot DO NOT ASK ME HOW I DON'T KNOW and everything was ok the CMOS worked and everything was back to the norm. So I unplugged the power, and put my PC back at my desk and plugged the power in again. Same result, would not turn on at all. I checked the cable, the PSU (EVGA 650w 80+ Gold), the 8 and 24 pin connectors, and the power button connector.

I eventually gave up and downgraded back to my original Mobo and CPU and as of me typing this right now everything is working fine. Everything booted up, meaning that it has got to be an issue with either the 4790k or the Extreme3. Since it won't even power on, I'd say the the Mobo most likely has something to do with it.

Help?

Solution
Difficult to say, maybe it was a installation problem on your end. You'll have to use it to see if the problem happens again. Of course if it does then you know it is a real problem that needs to be resolved. If not, then most likely it was something overlooked. It does happen to us all. :)

Tested the PSU, everything checks out, and nothing is wrong. I might try to reinstall the mobo and 4790k and try again. I'll get back to you.

-Thanks for the help!

Sooo, I reinstalled the Extreme3. And it booted up perfectly. Not so sure what the hell is going on. I would still like to troubleshoot this just in case it happens again. There isn't really a clear solution, other than "Strip your whole PC apart and put it back together."

Until it happens again, I guess we're good. Thanks for the help.
