Hello,

I recently purchased a Radeon XFX R7 240 and I installed it into a Dell Inspiron 545. It ran fine for a few minutes then the computer freezes up completely. I did replace the power supply to a Acer 450w after I got the graphics card. ( I bought the New PSU to see if it would resolve the freezing issue) but it didn't solve anything. I don't think anything is over heating since I do have 4 fans in the case. and nothing seems hot when I take the side of the pc off.

My PC specs,

Windows 7 64Bit
5GB Ram
Radeon XFX R7 240
450w Acer PSU
500GB Hard drive

Chances are the 450W PSU you got is still not enough.
450w is the minimum recommended, however not all 450w PSUs are made the same. Go with a known good brand: Seasonic, Corsair, XFX..

and get more than the bare minimum. I suggest 500w or 550w

I just swapped the psu with a corsair 600w power supply and still the same results, Although I did do a System diagnostic earlier with the 450w psu and that took 3 hours and the computer didn't freeze.

Well then its not a PSU problem.

1st - a sanity check:
Make sure the power cables from the PSU to your motherboard are all plugged in
Video drivers up to date?

Can you try the GPU in another system?
if it doesnt work, then RMA the GPU.

can you try your old GPU in your current system?
If the old one doesnt work, then something was damaged during the upgrade process.
