So I built my machine about a week ago and everything was running good except for a CPU temps. I only had the stock heat-sink so I ordered a new liquid cooled heat sink. After installing the new heat sink and hooking everything else back up I went to boot my machine up and it wouldn't. All the lights and fans turn on but there is nothing displayed on the monitor. I would really appreciate any help with this issue. Thanks!

My build is:
CPU: AMD FX-8350
MOBO: MSI 970 Gaming
Power Supply: Rosewill 600 watt
Graphics Card: MSI GTX 960
Ram: Kingston HyperX 8GB

I believe I installed it correctly and I definitely could have used too much thermal paste but I removed the heat-sink after it initially didn't boot and removed any excess. Could too much thermal paste possibly cause these issues?

Some thermal paste is conductive and can short things out. So yes excess can be bad.

Are you sure you followed the instructions? Are you sure didn't over tighten anything? Have you removed the CPU since? You may want to remove the CPU and make sure nothing got damaged or bent.

Yes I am sure I followed the instructions provided although they were somewhat vague, they only provided pictures for the installation but I followed what was provided closely.

I have removed the cpu since the initial installation, I inspected the pins and everything looked very straight and in order. I did notice a tiny amount of thermal paste had leaked onto the bottom side of the CPU. I cleaned this off the best that I could and tried again with no success. I will remove it again and take a picture of where it was leaked so you will be able to see.

**edit: I took out the CPU and noticed a bent pin. I corrected it and you cant tell that it was even bent. I reinstalled it hoping that would fix the issues but it did not. Here is a picture of the thermal paste that is on the wrong side of the cpu. I will try cleaning it better and trying again.

That MAY be causing a short. I would go to a hardware store and get some fine, pointy swabs. Dip them in at least 91% isopropyl and clean between the pins carefully. Let the alcohol evaporate and fire it up. That cpu should slide into the socket easily if all the pins are straight. What kind of hsf did you install?
