Wireless internet is so slow on new laptop and fast on old laptop

My old laptop is an acer 5750 and my new is an asus G551JW but with my old laptop, wireless speed is 74.94Mbps yet the new is 18.27Mbps with inconsistent results. had the same problem when I bought and returned a dell inspiron 15 7000 series due to this speed.
would appreciate any help that could be given to increase the speed. my internet speed is 100Mbps with virgin media

I would try updating your network adapter drivers. If that doesn't work, you could technically buy an external USB network adapter for your laptop. Personally, however, I would call customer service (yes, I know it can be a nightmare), and see what they can do for you on their end. Perhaps you happened to get a bad model, or perhaps their product is really just bad.
