Adding a second graphics card vs. custom watercooling

I am pondering a question of what the better option for my system would be. Right now I have an i7 5820k with a single gtx 980. The case that I have is the Corsair c70 and I am wondering if I should add a second 980 or possibly water cool my system. The components that I have chosen for my custom loop are around $600 and a new graphics card would be around $500. As of now I am only running a 120hz 1080p monitor. I do not know which one would be more beneficial in this situation. Any help would be much appreciated!

Watercooling would only give you more room to do more overclock. If you want a big performance increase add another card.
But at 1080p a single 980 should deliver 120fps in games where it really matters. If you want them in any game there is no way around adding another one. And even that wont give you 120fps @ max settings in some games.
But i would guess a performance increase of around 85-95% where is matters.

But for both options you got to make sure that your PSU is capable of powering your new system.
For SLI 980s i would recommend 850-1000w.
Im using 860 for SLI 780tis OCd (which consume a bit more than 980s)

A 980 should be fine for most games at 60 FPS, but if you want 120 FPS go with the second 980. OC can have good results, but can also cause artifacting even when cooled. My old card never goes above 70 C when I have a 10% OC but it artifacts a lot.

I do have a 1000 watt power supply and that is why I was considering a second 980.

The 980 is a much safer decision. Liquid cooling and overclocking are dangerous, overclocking normally voids your warranty and liquid cooling can leak and will not be covered by anyone.

So a second 980 would probably be the best way to go in this situation? I have done custom loops before, but the only thing that I was worried about is that the C70 is not really watercooling friendly. Also is it overkill to have two 980s for 1080p gaming?
