Im looking for a good CPU for an average cost, so around 150-200 dollars. I wanna be able to stream. I was looking at the i5 but im not very good at cpu choosing. Also does the mother board come into play here because i have an old 2012 pc, ive been upgrading parts in it but never the CPU. I put a new Geforce gtx 660 as the gpu and 4 gigs of RAM making me have 8. Thanks in advance. ~Bubba

Your motherboard determines what CPUs you can use. A CPU can only fit in a certain socket but that socket will also support CPUs in the same lineup. When you buy a mobo or a CPU, the socket type is listed in the specs and they need to match each other. You are going to have a hard time find an i5 AND a compatible mobo for under $200. Just the i5 alone is going to be a search I think. I recommend going with either an i3 or an amd piledriver (such as an FX 6300) cpu as well as a compatible micro atx motherboard.

Yes the motherboard does matter, The CPU slots are different,as are, MAX ram speeds, Power rounds(Very important.),And SATA speed, If you want that price range of CPU go for the AMD FX 8370. But I doubt that will fit on your motherboard.
