Hi

System specs in my icon to the left.

I have a Fractal Design R4 case. It has a voltage switch on the front for case fans. The options are 5, 7 & 12 volts. Normally I have it at 7 volts which is the perfect balance between temps and still being able to take advantage of the case's noise dampening. However during large transfers, especially during backups, the drives will sometimes heat up - not overheat, but still more than I'd like (40+ C). So I'm wondering if it's OK to switch the fan voltage on the fly? I'd be going from 7 to 12.

Thanks

Solution
The +12V is there the whole time(from the supply). The switch is just to drop down the voltage if you want the fan(s) to spin slower. No need to shut down since the circuit is in the switch itself. Your power supply won't notice anything. I would use mine, more, if it was easier to reach. =)
