What GPU to max out games and run at a good fps at 1440p?

It has to be an AMD. I'm choosing the MG279Q Freesync Monitor, because it's pretty much the best 1440p IPS monitor out there.
Not to mention G-sync is expensive for no fucking reason.

An aftermarket branded GTX 980ti overclocked will perform phenomenally on 1440P even outperforming the Titan X gaming wise.

If you are willing to sacrifice some of the graphics on higher end gaming the R9 390X isn't too bad either however if you do play a lot of modern games and really want the graphics settings to be good the GTX 980 would be the lowest i would go.

Has to be an AMD, Freesync does not work with nVidia cards which happens to be a terrible shame.

What about Fury X?

That is unfortunate the 980ti overclocked does so much better than the fury x however if you don't have a choice the fury x is really your best option or you can get 2 R9 290X which will get nice FPS on 1440P.

Yes I know, the situation with nvidia, freesync, gsync, 980ti and fury x is VERY unfortunate.
I would obviously go for the 980Ti, but then I would have to go with a 750eur G-sync monitor.

And I would just be wasting one aspect of my MG279Q monitor if I went with Nvidia on a Freesync monitor.

Can't AMD and Nvidia work together and make their cards Freesync and Gsync compatible. God donut..

And I don't really think that CFing two 290x is worth the hassle. I heard Crossfire is problematic.

I personally don't have first or second hand experience with Xfiring but as far as i'm concerned SLI isn't too much of a hassle and it works quiet well with games because the drivers for nvidia are quiet superior.

What games do you play?

Are you okay with 60 fps or do you want 144 fps?

If you're okay with 60 fps a single Asus strix Fury non x should be a decent solution.
The card will not be able to max out all games @ 1440p 60 fps.

The Witcher 3 is an example of a game that you will not be able to max out with 60 fps however you might be close if you disable hairworks and get a fury x.

The R9 Fury is a very bad decision at the moment, if you see the fps benchmarks at the current moment it has a terrible price : performance ratio and this is partially because of the drivers but i really would not risk it.

You'll need a either a Fury or a Fury X.

I have a Fury X + MG279Q - It will run new AAA titles smoothly at their highest settings with the exception of really cranked up MSAA. You basically set your monitor to run at 90Hz in Windows, enable Freesync from the monitor, set frame rate limiter to 90 FPS in catalyst control center, then turn up all the settings in game.

The problem with the Fury line is getting your hands on one. They're all getting sold out as soon as they get restocked at the moment - you'll have to check frequently to nab one as it becomes available or wait for demand to stop exceeding supply.

Fury Air has a better price/performance ratio than the 980Ti, yet that doesn't stop you from hawking the 980 TI.

Oh, and FYI, the Fury drivers are already solid. If they get any better the Fury Air will be on par with a 980TI and the Fury X clearly above it.

"The OP already told you he is not interested in getting an Nvidia card & Gsync Monitor"

Seems like the OP wants the best looking 1440p variable refresh rate monitor made by Asus.

I use and prefer Nvidia, I own a Gsync monitor however the OP doesn't want to go that route.

That's why we gon' turn up to Fury X.

Yo.

Seriously though, I decided to go with a Fury X. Would LOVE to go with a 980Ti, as it's only 60eur more, but freesync etc. etc.

I hope they further improve the Fury X drivers.

I have a Titan x running @ 1402 mhz, 7600 on the memory powering a rog swift 1440 144 hz monitor.

I get close however I don't get a solid 60 fps with the Witcher 3 with hair works turned on...

I get over a 100 fps when playing BF4 on ultra most of the time however i also use Nvidia's MFAA.

An overclocked Titan X is much faster than a Fury X...

There's no way I can afford Fury CF

Furyx will be good for you, it's not that far behind a 980 ti and is fairly equal stock to stock and only when the 980ti is adequately overclocked, which most of them do well, is where you see the performance difference and it only really matter much in 4k.

You should be pleased with it...the stock 980 ti is pretty damn fast and smooth, so I assume furyx would be the same.

The I suggest you just go with a Fury X and hopefully you will be satisfied with the performance...
