Hi,

I was here a while back looking for some advice on a custom loop for my PC, but have since decided to leave out my GPUs (upgrading soon and finding a block for them would be hard). I have my parts all chosen, and would just like to make sure they would work.

Reservoir: Phobya Balancer 150 Black Nickel
Coolant: EK Ekoolant Pastel Concentrate 250ml White
Fittings: XSPC G1/4 Black Chrome 1/2 Compression Fitting
Pump: Laing DDC-1T Plus 12V PWM Pump
Radiator: Alphacool NexXxoS XT45 Full Copper 240mm
CPU Block: EK Supremacy EVO CPU Waterblock Nickel
Tubing: PrimoChill PrimoFlex Advanced LRT Tubing Clear

My build is as follows:
CPU - Intel i7 4790K @ 4.6GHz
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws-X 8GB 1333MHz
MOBO - Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H
GPU - Crossfire Sapphire HD 7950 Dual-X
CASE - Corsair Carbide 330R Titanium

My case's current state is a little bit grim ;)

Solution
A few points:

1. The i7-4790K default is 4.4GHz Turbo. By overclocking only to 4.6GHz (minimal or no real-world benefit) you drive up the CPU temperature under load thus needing better cooling. That is because you disable many of the power savings features by overclocking.

If the point of this is just cooling then simply go back to defaults. You appear to have a Noctua cooler so it's probably just fine while keeping quiet (use motherboard fan control software to optimize).

2. Air cooling is more reliable than liquid cooling and likely quieter if comparing a reasonably good Noctua (and again default CPU settings).

3. You also don't state why you prefer choosing parts over a pre-built solution as there are a few that work just great...

looks good, I have the Ek supremacy evo and I can say it works well. Im currently just cooling the cpu as well, but I will be adding a 980ti sooner or later.

just make sure the parts fit in the case, and that you choose good fans for the rad.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply, this is mainly for 'muh aesthetics', with the bonus of being able to get rid of that getto zip-tie job I have. I also have been wanting to do a custom loop for a while now and can finally afford part of a full loop.

An AIO would be fine, but I'm looking for a bit of a challenge, which is why I opted for the much more expensive, harder solution.

Other than your points, I take it that what I have listed is good enough?

Thanks for the input,
