I've lately been thinking about learning how to code because I'd like to one day take a stab at making my own video game. I'm curious as to what kind of hardware is required make videogames? I know it is kind of a vague question, and it probably all depends on what kind of game and the scale of said game. But i'm curious as to what would be the processor best suited for the job. I'm in the progress of upgrading my current build. I currently have a AMD FX 6300. I'm debating between getting an i7-4790K or Intel Xeon-E3-1241. Will either on of these make a difference in game development?

I7-4790K is best choice. it is a monster CPU at 4ghz(4,4ghz Turbo) factory default, it its really powerfull for all purposes (editing, rendering, Gaming, etc..)
So its more elastic than Xeon and good for game development too.
However the X99 plataform with an i7 5820K would be even better, all depends on you budget.

Very little performance difference between that xeon and the 4790k, they are pretty much the same cpu except for some small differences. Both cpus can do everything you require - the main difference is that the i7 can be overclocked if that appeals to you(and the i7 has a gpu built in, xeon does not).
