Is it the right time for me to jump to Radeon? XFX R9 390 looks nice!

Hello guys. For my budget, a video card is a huge investment that I expect to last at least 4-5 years because if it lasts that long I consider it a huge, but fair investment. The problem is that I don't think that I achieved that with the last card I bought. I'm talking about the PNY GTX 660 XLR8, which after two years and a few months, is already dying. Is supposed to still be under lifetime warranty but I was never 100% satisfied with the card and since both nVidia and AMD have far superior products in the present market, I was thinking to get a new card and save that one for a future 2nd build if I'm finally able to get a replacement.

I remember that I had a pretty satisfactory experience with a previous XFX GTX 260 Core 216 that lasted about 4 years and XFX honored the lifetime warranty and sent me a nice Radeon HD 7770 which was a Direct X 11 card vs Direct X 10 for the GTX (because nVidia cards was no longer in production). For me that's a very desirable warranty. Too bad they are not building nVidia cards anymore and I would have to get a Radeon to get a XFX with lifetime warranty again. They also honored the warranty of a previous 8600 GT card.

Hence the thread title:Is it the right time for me to jump to Radeon? XFX R9 390 looks nice!

Do you think is wise to get a new R9 390 XFX card because of the lifetime warranty? Also I would like to know about comparable cards in price and performance that should last at least five years. Thanks in advance guys for reading me.

There is always something better coming in the next 6 months. Better question is can you save up and move into a significantly better card, such as the Fury X or 980/980 TI? With DirectX 12 just a little more then a week away be sure to consider that as well.
the reply to you would be no. nvidia 900 line and the amd 300 line are stop gap products. the foundrys and intel had issue going from the larger 20mm node to the 14mm node. both nvidia and amd products that are out no are not the best products that are a few months from dropping. nvidia pascal and the true next amd chipset in 2016 will be a lot lot faster then the gpu that are out now. just google pascal and look at the slides from nvidia on how much faster it will be over maxwell.

Pascal looks promising, but I think that will be too expensive for my budget because I'll need a new motherboard and probably a new CPU. I'm in the process of assembling a new PC and already got a new i7 CPU and new Z97 motherboard and I need an affordable graphics card to finally complete my build. I can't wait till 2016 for a new graphics card. I need it at most in the next 2-3 months. I'll end up getting the best I think I can get for about $350. Thanks for your answer!

I'm not a $550 video card guy, I'm more like a $200 video card guy who had a bad experience and is willing to turn into a $350 video card guy if it's worth the improvement! XFX R9 390 is a DirectX 12 card!
