Hello!

All of a sudden, after doing nothing special on my laptop (I opened a normal VLC video file, which worked normally) my keyboard went completely crazy. Now it is typing two letters at the same time, and always the same ones. It is typing

r = r6 and 6 = 6r
8 = 8y and 8 = 8y
l = 9l and 9 = 9l

F2 = w
F4 = e
F8 = k
F12 = ´

Numpad1 = 1/
Numpad0 = +0 and Numpad+ = +0
Numpad* = -* and Numpad- = -*

Also, these keys will not be capitalized by the left shift key but will work with the right shift, which affects both characters:
klweru

I have tried updating my bios and every possible combination of Fn and Numlock to no avail. Malware bytes and AVG both come up clean. Please help me, I'm pretty desperate.

My laptop is an Acer V3-571, windows 8.1. Thanks!

Welcome to the life of computers; they break until you spend money on the problem - then they decide to fix themselves.

I would bet that it will start with its glitching again sooner or later though. If the problem comes back, or it bothers you, I would recommend replacing the internal keyboard. It usually isn't too difficult or expensive. Anyway, best of luck! Cheers!

It sounds more like a hardware problem than an infection. Have you spilled anything on the keyboard area or has it been in a high humidity area? Generally when keys start doing something by themselves it generally points to a short in the keyboard (usually caused by water damage).

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Really? Oh no... Nothing was spilled on it, but the city I live in does have a relatively high humidity. Is there a way I could test this? Also, would a hardware problem happen all of a sudden like this? Thanks!

For sure! Do you have any bootable media, like any Windows recovery discs or something of the sort? If you do, boot that media and find a place to type. Test all of those keys and see if the same thing happens. You could always hook up a USB keyboard and test with that too.

The erratic and random nature of the number and letters leads me to believe that there was some sort of water damage, but it could always be something else! Let me know what you find out!

Thanks so much for your help! Unfortunately, in the end it seems as if it actually was a hardware problem. I connected a wireless keyboard to it and it worked!

Oh my god, I don't know whether I should be happy or frustrated or what but it started working again, through absolutely no action of mine hahahaha What on earth is going on? Is this consistent with a hardware problem? I'm glad it's working again, but I wish it would have fixed itself before I bought the wireless keyboard hahahaha
