Hello! I've just set up a drive for my family where all our movies, TV shows, audio and the rest are stored on it. However my parents also wish to back up their personal documents, finances, etc to the hard drive - it's a 4TB HDD - but do not wish for this to be visible to everyone who connects to the network, and I honestly do not know how to do this. Is a specific program needed? Seems that some programs allow the locking of folders, but it's more like a door - you lock it, then unlock it and everyone can access, it would be much more useful if it was locked permanently and a password was needed to access. Alternatively if you could whitelist the sharing of the specific folders that would be excellent as well. It's connected to our router, and shared through Netgear's ReadySHARE system. I have it mapped as a network drive on all our computers, if that is pertinent. Thank you for your help on how to hide/lock the specific folders!

I would create a separate partition and then use VeriCrypt to encrypt it. It will require a password for anybody to access it. Here is the VeraCrypt web site link. It's free encryption.

You also create a hidden folder on the drive to that is encrypted and only accessed with a password with VeraCrypt.
