Howdy folks,
My wife just upgraded her PC with a some new tidbits and she's looking for a PSU that'll handle casual gaming (Civ 5, WoW, BF4, PayDay 2, Minecraft). The system isn't on 24/7, mainly a couple hours in the evenings, some weekends.
Whats in the PC:
ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0
AMD FX-8320 FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition
G.Skill 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz Ripjaws Series (9-9-9-24)
PNY GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB
She's been running into an issue with the system shutting down intermittently during gaming. The only parts not replaced at this point are the PSU and HDD. The PSU thats in there is a 7 year old, 650 watt RaidMax (iirc) Modular (not sure of series), and my initial thoughts are that the graphics card is bumping into the rev limiter on the PSU when the system is being taxed.
Not looking for the "Extreme Pro 'gaming pays the bills', system is on 24/7 crunching physics data, multi-video card - direct Edison power-tap from the street with a separate billing address" PSU with shenanigannery that isn't necessary for casual gaming.
Any thoughts on size (was thinking 850w), 80 Plus certification, and brand?
Thanks,
Larry
