Hi. I'm building a dual boot hackintosh. My question is, if I put the windows 10 technical preview on there right now, whenever it officially releases, will I just have to pay for an activation key then? Any help is really appreciated! Thanks!

Right. That is a new thing with Win 10.
I can't find the specific MS link where I read it, though...:(

Also, a currently installed Tech Preview...

Probably, yes.
Your main issue here is actually obtaining the Tech Preview. They cut off downloads a couple of days ago.

The clicky for downloading the PC ISO is disabled.

Actually, maybe not. The statement was made from MS some months ago that a full reinstall would not be needed when going from the Tech Preview to a licensed release.

Whether it actually works like that...who knows.

Interesting, I've never heard of that happening with a tech preview before. Usually it requires a full reinstall, like with Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Also, a currently installed Tech Preview will (supposedly) roll over to the final release on or after July 29. What happens after that is up to you.
Either:
Buy Win 10 and apply the license.
Roll back to your original Win 7/8/8.1.
Rollback and upgrade.
Continue on the Insider Program, and be a perm beta tester.
