hey is the i7 5930K good for gaming and for gaming in the future or would the i7 4790K be better?

Solution
Of course the 5930k is good for gaming. The 4790k would technically be a little better in some games, but the difference would never be huge. The 5930k is a terrible choice if gaming is the only objective though since it's so expensive.

Why not a 5820K? It's the same processor (minus 100mhz - irrelevant if you're overclocking), just with 28 PCIe lanes instead of 40. Even 3 card SLI / CFX systems will run perfectly with 3 x8 PCIe slots. Unless you're planning some crazy rig that requires the full 40 lanes, the 5820K is a better choice (significantly cheaper) than the 5930K.

I agree with CTurbo though, unless you uses other than gaming, or you're prepared to spend significantly more money now to get a longer-lasting rig, you're much better off with a 4790K and invest the money saved into a better graphics card.
