Hello!

I have recently updated my rig, got myself a shiny new motherboard: an Asus Maximus VII Hero.

Turns out I already owned an Asus Xonar Essence STX II because my previous motherboard's on-board sound was thrash and that I wanted to make the most out of a gaming headset I was already using for my PS3, but that works exclusively through SPDIF.

The problems started there: the sound card was working fine with my previous motherboard in SPDIF mode at 192000Hz, but when I plugged it in my new motherboard, I found out that it was now VERY unstable in SPDIF mode and doesn't work at all in frequencies above 48000Hz. To make it work properly, I am forced to downgrade to lower frequencies or use it in Window's settings in regular speaker mode, losing a considerable amount of sound quality. (Yes, for those people who are wondering, I do hear the difference in quality. I wish I didn't and that I could go on with my life not caring at all, but I can't...)

I tried two drivers: the original Asus drivers, which were the worst, and Uni Xonar's drivers, which are a tad more stable but still not working properly.

Asus has totally refused to help me. I've been trying to receive help for over a month now, and I'm getting flat down rejected at every try with half-assed answers or plain refusals. I'm pretty sure it's a settings thing but I've already gone though all that I know, it's probably something I need to change in the BIOS. Maybe it's even a dumb mistake I've made, I have absolutely no idea.

Anyone has a clue as to what I can do? I would appreciate it A LOT.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Can't help you with the technical side of things but I can say just give up trying to get support from ASUS. They will never reply with anything useful about sound cards.
Just didn't want you wasting any more time on them.
