my rig: i5-4210u @1.7ghz upto 2.7ghz max turbo freq, 4gb ram, nvidia 820m 2gb , 500gb hdd windows 8.1. i have heard that this processor is capable of reaching 2.7ghz on turbo boost, but while running on only 1 core and 2.4ghz on 2 cores. now my question is, how do i allocate one core while running a game so that i can juice that 2.7ghz to enjoy the game fully . also i have seen that there is an option in task manager called affinity, which allocates cpus to the game and not cores. is there any way to achieve this? if so, then how? please reply

you can try setting core affinity in the task manager.
open windows task manager > select the process tab > right click on your chosen process (under image name column) > select "set core affinity" > unselect "<all processors>" and set your preferred core affinity.

but i am using windows 8.1 and when i go to details in process tab, i get set affinity option in which there is only an option in processors and not cores. and if i unselect all processors i cannot apply the setting. anything else can be done?

windows treats cpu cores as processors.

usually the first core (core or processor 0) receives the highest utilization. any core can run at the highest turbo frequency as long as the o.s. selects that core and the conditions are met.
