How to use much RAM for playing GTA IV on non-dedicated Graphics Card?

Hi. I 'm Sid. My laptop specifications are:

? 4 GB RAM
? 512 GB HDD
? 64 MB Intel HD 3000 (Non-Dedicated) Graphics Card
? Intel Core i3 Dual Core Processor

I want to play GTA IV since I use my RAM (Physical memory) to run it, it collects around 1000 MB space from RAM and it works smoothly at 275 MB usage but when I increase my Graphics performance in my game, I mean when I make usage more than 300 MB GTA IV becomes too slow and starts lagging a lot.

I think the game isn't using that whole free space of RAM (1000 MB) but only upto 300 MB. Rarely, the Game frozes or crashes by saying “GTA IV: Running out of video memory”.
I had increased the priority of the Game's process to High. But still same thing.

I want to run GTA IV smoothly with atleast medium Graphics performance. Can I do anything.

Please suggest me.

Thanks

Hey Sid, you pretty much have to make do with what you have, I'd simply play on lower settings. It seems like you are using a laptop right? So you don't really have the option of adding a graphics card.

Intel HD 3000 graphics are very weak. It is unlikely that any game needing more than 512MB of memory will run well enough to be playable. The amount of allocated memory isn't going to be where the bottleneck is. You can always run benchmarks to check, but I doubt you will notice any difference at all between allocating 1GB and 512MB to VRAM. You may even be able to go down to 320MB without seeing a difference in GTA IV (but it might start affecting, say, large photoshop files). If I am understanding correctly, 275 is the lowest you can set it before it affects your performance, So I say set it to 256MB of shared memory+ 64MB dedicated = 320MB. 1GB is definitely overkill for gaming on Intel HD 3000.

Basically, the higher settings that need more memory are going to be too much for your GPU no matter what you do, so set it to the lowest that works for you. There is no need to allocate extra video RAM when it won't be used effectively.

As a side note, check and see if there is a free slot for RAM in your laptop. If there is, upgrading to dual channel memory (2 matching sticks instead of 1) will improve all-around performance of your computer.
