Hey everyone!

I really need a helping hand out here. Here is the story, I moved from the United States back to my home country in Greece and shipped my 6 months built with freight. I re assembled my PC which was extremely carefully packaged.

I have a 4790k on a Maximus VII Hero, Seasonic Platinum 860XP2 my cooler is Hyper EVO 212 and I have the MSI Gtx 970 which I manually OC +150 core clock, +200 memory clock, +12mv.
My case is Cooler Master Storm Stryker with default fans.

So everything is assembled and I boot my PC to see that the temps these last 3 days vary from 45-60 just sitting idle!!!! I ran a test with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility for 5 min and the temps reached 90c!

I updated to the latest bios but no difference. I loaded the optimized defaults on bios, the temps were the same. I disabled the Turbo clock (4.4Ghz) and the temps dropped about 4c on idle and on full load were at the low 70s. Ok that is acceptable I suppose but the idle temps are extremely high I think from a research I did. Even back in the US I never had temps like 25-30c other users have but I had late 30s and 40c and on full load 70c

I read on different threads about tweaking cpu core volts but I am not that experienced and could use some guidance.

The thermal paste is Gelid GC Extreme btw and I have applied that 3 times with the same results. Twice with the pea method and once X shaped.

Any help will be deeply appreciated I don't know what else to do.

Yea, those temp is high, even with your turbo boost disabled. If it was working fine for disassemble, then check the very basics, cpu cooler fan connections, are the evo212 fans spinning when the system is turned on. Cos, it's not likely to be a software issue to me, it's more like due to physical damages during shipping or reassembly, or just error during reassembly.

I would carefully assessing each inch of your system to make sure no physical damages and all connectors are connected correctly.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't considered the version of physical damage. When I read your message I have been thoroughly examined my system but haven't found any visible damage or wire/card not plugged in right. The CPU fan is spinning normally as every other fan in the case. I even removed the CPU and installed it again and installing for the 4th time the thermal paste! NO difference at all! :(

Is there any change that my CPU is damaged from the shipping? How? There isn't visible damage as I said. Is there anything else to try? I have been testing The Witcher 3 and reached temps up to 86 with 15 minutes gaming. The average was 64-72c.

if your fans are all working fine ( especially the cpu fans on your evo212) and all installations are doen correctly, go into ur bios and go to the last tab (the exiting and saving tab) and chose the load optimised settings options in the list. this will reset all the settings on your motherboard back to factory default.

Note: if you are overclocking, those settings will be lost. maybe make a note of the OC settings for easier OC later on.

Yes every component looks just fine. I already did load the optimized defaults but made no difference. I never tried to OC my CPU.

The only thing I did to drop the temps 5-10c but on idle only was to choose the balance plan into the power options. I was reaching 45-60c before and with the balance plan I get 39-45c with some spikes at the first 2-3 minutes the PC boots into windows that reach up to 66c. I leave my PC to load any programs which is almost instant since I have an SSD drive and then I run Afterburner to read the temps!

Again when I try a game just for 10 minutes like Witcher 3 I get 82c temps.

But every fan spins just fine, no weird sound. And I don't see any other visible damage on any component after a detail examination of my PC.

What is the ambient temps in the room when you measured the temps in idle.

The ambient temp in the room is 30-32c on the peak and 26-28c the cooler time of the day. I did though test it for a full day with the air con blowing in the room and had 26c and didn't see any significant improvement in temps.

My startup processes are very few.
VMware
Microsoft Security essentials
Realtek Audio Manager
Malwarebytes
Rivatuner
Geforce experience

When you say background processes you mean what programs are running on task manager when I boot the PC? I checked that but I didn't see anything weird. Like insane RAM usage or something fishy. But again maybe there is something I don't know that shouldn't be there...

Try getting rid of geforce experience. I uninstalled it and my temps have been a lot better. I don't really know what VMware and Rivatuner is so I can't say and malwarebytes shouldn't start automatically unless you have said it.

Sorry for the delay of my response. I had some health issues I couldn't determine the cause and ended up to be out of stress. Anyhow out of all my startup programs the one that was unstable but not everytime for some reason was malwarebytes! VMware is a virtual machine that I run Windows 10 on it. And Rivatuner is installed to go with Afterburner so I can see on display framerate on games.

Thanks everyone that jumped in to help with their knowledge. My temps have dropped back to normal and for anyone interested what I did to achieve that is below. My idle temps right now are 31-34 and under load 70-72c.

a)Changed the power plan in windows to balanced

b) Enabled C-states in bios

c)Disabled Multicore Enhancement

d)Enabled Dynamic storage accelerator in bios

e) Enable Intel Rapid storage driver through windows
