im considering buying a kingston V300 SSD just got a question regarding the cloning procedure.

my desktop pc has two internal hardrives os drive c and data drive d. would the procedure for cloning the os drive onto the new ssd be this...

shut down pc
disconnect data drive and connect new blank ssd to those sata connectors.
boot pc from acronis cloning disk provided ,
clone os drive onto new ssd, remove acronis dvd and turn off pc
disconnect old c drive and connect new ssd os drive to the old c drive sata connectors
reconnect data drive back to where it was originally
boot pc normally

is that the steps i should take? is it that easy?

cheers

So, to clone the system:

Install whichever migration application you wish. Acronis, Samsung, Casper, Easus Todo, Macrium Reflect (all work well)
Power off
Disconnect the secondary drive
Connect the new SSD
Power up
Run the software, making the correct selections as you go
Hopefully it works
Once done, power down
Disconnect ALL other drives except the new SSD
See if it boots.
---Here we may have a teeny issue. If the OS was installed with both original drives installed, the System Reserved partition (boot info) will probably exist on the original secondary drive. If so, no...

It is 'easy', if it works properly.

Couple things to consider:
1. Drive space. Is your SSD larger than the total used space on the current drive?
2. Be sure the small System Reserved partition on the current drive is also migrated over. (If it exists on that particular drive)
3. I would go with a different drive. That particular Kingston has issues. It is cheap for a reason.

Yeah I've read about the drive size and used space cheers, it was the fact the Kingston drive came in kit form with everything you'd need for desktop installation that attracted me to it but I'm not dead set on it

Get a different one. Samsung drives also come with that stuff. Mount plate, migration software, etc.

But most recent cases have 1 or more dedicated 2.5" drive mounts. No mounting adapter needed.

If it fails, reconnect the original secondary drive
See if it boots
If yes, then verify you boot order in the BIOS
Reconnect your original C drive
Wipe that drive as needed

Proceed.

I've changed the secondary drive since I bought the PC so the system reserve must be on the os drive. It's a dell vostro 430 so it's a mini tower I think . Cheers for the running order
