So I have just updated from intel pentium g3258 to intel i5 4790k. I have kept the same other components which were h81m-e mobo, 8gb ram, 430w corsair psu. It all runs fine just runs at the same speed as my old cpu which i'm pretty sure it shouldn't. I don't know what to do to make it quicker and running games such as Ark and GTA, lagg on minimal settings and reviews of the i5 said it can play basically every game on medium graphics. Do i have to do something after putting my new CPU in or does it work straight away?

The G3258 is an appropriate CPU to mate with a 750 ti. The i5 is now over kill but your bottle neck may still have been the 750 ti for gaming. You say you have poor performance in general. Updating the BIOS probably won't help. You may have a software issue with Windows, malware, and or a virus. It's hard to say. I know it's a major pain in the rear but it's amazing what a clean install of Windows will do sometimes.

You didn't mention what video card you have. I'm guessing not a very good one and that is where your "bottleneck" is. So, your problem running games is probably video based and not cpu. Again, can't know until you tell us what video card you are using.

I have a 750 ti graphics card, that has been running fine but even things such as the internet and general usage is bad, i will try updating bios and see what that gets me
