Looking for some opinions here,
I am considering adding a 500gb ssd to my rig to hold games. Currently I've got a 240gb ssd for OS and apps as well as 1 game(bf4) and a WD black drive for my current game drive, but I am seriously considering grabbing a 500gb or greater ssd for my games. I've noticed my load times on games like bf hardline are stupid long compared to my buddy who's on an ssd. I know I wouldn't gain any more fps from an ssd but my frame rates are fine. It's the load times that kill me. Gta V takes forever as well. Is it worth the investment or would I be ok to hold off a few more months till ssd prices drop again? Here in Canada ssd's 500gb and larger are stupid expensive. Seems more and more games could benefit from an ssd, but with games comjng 60gb+ 500gb of ssd may not be enough. What are you guys doing? Ssd or HDD?

Solution
Well, you have 4 choices:
More spinning platters
RAID 0 with those spinning platters
SSHD
SSD

You'll have to balance size vs budget vs performance.

Maybe go the half way approach. Hybrid drives are out their and you would get the performance boost in load times, but it wouldn't be as good as an ssd it would be better than an hdd. That said ssd's are ridiculously expensive for a terabyte drive. The sad thing is games are just increasing in the ammount of memory the require so if you do get an ssd you can only realistically put maybe 5-7 games at 500gb.

So i guess it comes down to this. What's your internet speed and are you ok with constantly deleting and re downloading new games? Or you could just opt out get a hybrid drive.

This is the best one i could find maybe try googling around for a better deal. This does sound good though. 120gigs of ssd space and 1 tb of hdd in one. Get maybe 2? It'd be around the same price as one 500gb ssd. Try partitioning the drives ssd's together run the os on that and put on a game or two that you always play. Plus you got 2 terabytes for all your other stuff. Well gl happy hunting.

Thanks for the idea. I was considering hybrid drives but with only 120gb of ssd it seems rather little. My download speed is 55mbps and I don't use wifi so I know that's not an issue specialy since the buddy I play with only gets 30mbps down and he always beats me into a game. My other option is to take my other(currently unused) WD black drive and create a raid0. That would give me tons of space and decent speed and if a drive fails its only games I own I'm losing so those can be redownloaded. It seems games these days require an ssd almost. Such a pain

I was going to raid 0 my current WD black drive with my other black drive.

Steam mover is great, but there are a few games I play often and would prefer to just have them all on one fast storage solution. I'm worried 500gb of ssd won't be enough
