Approximate Purchase Date: this Monday

Budget Range: (e.g.: 300-400) $730(before rebates, tax included)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 1080p gaming, programming (compiling in Visual Studio)

Are you buying a monitor: Yes / No
I have an old monitor... not sure when I plan to upgrade it

Parts to Upgrade: (e.g.: CPU, mobo, RAM)
Parts now-
i5-2320
rosewill 470 ish 80 plus watt psu
sapphire amd 6870
crap mobo
8 gigs ddr3 1333
super crap 5400rpm 500gig hdd
antec 1100 case (sorry I forgot to mention this)

The reason why I'm posting is because I just want to 1080p game mainly and want a 970 in the build... but I'm not sure if I can do it because of my budget because... when I put my cpu into a new case I dropped it on the floor twice. Oops I know. It's been running fine for 4 months but the temps are much higher than before which makes me think I really messed it up. 80c not even at full load now.

So I'm guessing the only thing I might be able to keep is the ram but I'm open to suggestions. I want to include a small maybe 50-60 dollar SSD to keep the OS, a few games and pictures on. Not sure if I even want to get another HDD because the one I have now seems to run fine.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes / No
I have an OS I'm great here.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:
I live next to a Microcenter (Richardson, TX)
and online is great as well, I don't care which site.

Location: City, State/Region, Country - North Dallas, TX

Parts Preferences: by brand or type (e.g.: I would like to upgrade to Intel CPU)
i5, other than that I have no preference.

Overclocking: Yes / No / Maybe
I do not want to overclock.

SLI or Crossfire: Yes / No / Maybe
I'd MAYBE think about SLI or Crossfire in 6m to a year.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080, 1080p gaming

Thank in advance for your time!
Jeremy

Additional Comments: (e.g.: Need to have a window and lots of bling, I would like a quiet PC. Please also list specific software or games you're using)

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: (e.g. I'm having trouble running game X or my PSU broke)

Alright, lets trash everything except the RAM because that we can keep.

Start off with this and since you have some headroom you can get a better case if that interests you or perhaps add an SSD however performance wise this is great.

Oh my goodness I forgot to mention I bought a super nice case and moved my old build into it!!!
I bought an antec 1100 and got it for like 65 bucks after mail in rebates. What a steal I say lol.
The thing is huge and can fix a full size atx in there.

I also want to mention my local microcenter has a 4690k for 200 even... great deal but I'm not sure if I should overclock it... I do have 5 fans in my new case because I bought a couple extra for inflow and outtake for my antec 1100 so... I'm not sure if I should go that route.

Sorry!

Wonderful! It's nice to have a good looking case ^^

If this works it would be great.
However if it exceeds your budget because of the rebate and what not, you can simply remove the CPU cooler.
Without the CPU cooler it may run slightly hotter and slightly louder but it shouldn't deteriorate the performance.

he said he already had a descent HDD so why not remove it and instead get a larger capacity SSD so more programs and applications can run at faster speeds

I actually ended up getting a steal of a computer at Microcenter since I live next to the one in Richardson/Dallas area. They had a couple of deals going on so I got a i5-4690k, 120gig sandisk ssd, cooler master hyper 212 evo, WD 1tb HDD, and a ASRock Z97 Anniversary LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s MB with an EVGA non-mod 600 watt PSU all for $486 dollars, 456 after rebates.

I got the build up and running within 2 hours and got most of the programs installed within the hour. It's my first SSD and I can't believe how much faster it is than my old 5,400 rpm crap HDDs. Was stoked that nothing was DOA and everything worked flawlessly out of box first try.

I plan on buying a super discounted 970 to go with it... just waiting for a steal during the holiday season. Thanks for all your help!

p.s. they had an open box Sapphire 970 there for 292, because the driver disk was missing. Probably should have left there with it but my fiance would have killed me.
