GTX 970 SLI, Reference Design or ACX 2.0?

Hi, I own a EVGA SSC GTX 970 ACX 2.0 single graphics card,
however i do plan updrading to a SLI config in the near future to play GTA V and future blockbuster tiles at top maxed out 1080p settings and in the future in 1440p (which with a single gtx 970 on 1080p on Gta V I get super smooth graphics and fps but not all of the full Antialiasing) so SLI will help a lot.The problem itselt is that looking at my Mobo Maximus VII Gene, i realized that the 2way sli card will be one after another, since it is a micro-ATX form factor, leaving no space in between for ventilation in the first of the cards if i was planning to buy another EVGA GTX 970 ACX 2.0. So i did a little research and I saw that with this kind of no space 2 way sli configs with ACX 2.0 the reference design is more recommended since it sucks air from the main fan and throws the hot air from one of the sides of the card so theoretically the cards should run cooler than the ACX 2.0 with the no space sli config. So my question is: Which design will be better for me do I stick with my ACX 2,0 or I should get the refernce designs for getting better cooling and therefore better performance?

Specs: i7 4790k, Asus Maximus VII Gene, Bitfenix Prodigy M case

Probably the reference card and then overclock it to match the speeds of your acx. The reference card actually sends the air outside the back of the case, so they are popular for not so well ventilated cases or smaller builds with not a lot of room.

Ok so You're suggesting that I should relpace my current acx 2.0 for a reference design one so both sli cards will benefit their airflow OR just keep the acx 2.0 and buy a reference design and THEN oc it to match my evga ssc axc 2.0?

You could do it either way and just use the new reference card and keep your acx now, it depends how flexible your sli bridge is. Yeah and then overclock the reference to whatever you're at now, cause I'm pretty sure they will base off the slowest clock.

At least you'd only have one card putting hot air back into the case, so it should be similar to your temps now.
