Fellow Rig Builders,

I am currently rocking a EVGA 550Ti, jealous?

It is killing Witcher 3 on low with about 15 FPS...yeah, now you're jealous!

Even though my graphics are totally sick, I crave more. Specifically, I crave Ultra settings @ 1080 with future 2k use and 40 FPS.

My Rig from 2012:

Cooler Master HAF 912 with tons of fans! whirrrrrl!
Samsung 240 GB SSD for the games (2014 add)
OCZ Agility 60 GB for the OS
Corsair TX650 Bronze
G. Skill Ripjaws 8GB DDR3 SDRAM
i5-3570K 3.4ghz or 3.8ghz on Turbo
Windows 7, although 10 will be here in 2 weeks.
Finally, Zalman CNPS9500 CPU cooler - It glows blue!!

Here is what I need:

1. Recommended graphics card that can be inserted with no additional purchases. Thinking Nvidia GTX 970. (No AMD please, Team Blue)

2. Recommend graphics card with some minor upgrades to my rig.

Also, no SLI unless cheaper than a single card and I want to rock Fallout 4 on Ultra.

"But Fallout 4 is not out yet" I know, just take a guess.

Thanks in advance you super smart people!!

I had witcher 3 bundled with the EVGA SSC 960 and it was definitely playable at 1080p on medium settings. But I too craved more power so I upgraded to the 970 before the 30 day warranty ran out. It's not 60FPS on Ultra, but using the NVIDIA optimization settings gives me 40-60FPS consistently and it is really hard to tell the difference.

Also, I haven't noticed a huge difference between high and ultra settings e.g.
http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/comparisons/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-texture-quality-interactive-comparison-1-ultra-vs-high.html

I mean... try and find the difference.

You can easily run a 980 Ti on a 600W PSU with those specs. But a 980 Ti is pretty expensiove compared to the 970 he's considering.

I agree with you. But he didn't list a budget or a preferred resolution. Also, since he's averse to SLI, and since you state that a 600W bronze PSU is enough for a 980 Ti, I'm thinking that he could game with full graphics detail with whatever resolution he chooses: 1080p, 1440p, 3440 x 1440p.

You are correct. But I think a 970 would be fine, gives ultra at 1080 with 60 fps in most cases, 40 fps in 2k with maybe a few settings turned down to high or so. A 980 Ti will give you 100+ at 1080, and 70+ at 2k in most cases. A bit overkill in my opinion, unless you really want to shell out some dough to last 3+ years.
