Hi,

Just wondering if my Corsair HX650 (bronze) is enough for my build - specifically for a GTX 980TI
It is about 2.5 years old.
I know the minimum requirements say 600w for this GPU, but is it safer to upgrade to a better PSU.
This build is specifically for VR (oculus rift) - if that makes any difference.

The rest of my build:
Asrock z77 extreme 4 mobo
i5-3570k (non-overclocked)
16gb ddr3 ram

Thanks in advance

600 watts from a trusted continuous supply would be advised for a 980 Ti system that's overclocking. That said, given that you're not overclocking you could in theory be more than fine. You're only going to pull roughly 500 watts from the wall with an otherwise stock system.

Thanks!
When you say a 980Ti system that's overclocking, I have bought the 980Ti EVGA SC+ edition - so 600w would be required for that GPU?
And (sorry if this is a silly question), what do you mean by a trusted continuous supply. Is Corsair HX650 a good PSU. Only asking incase I do decide to overclock my system.

I would honestly just upgrade the PSU, I had the same situation as you. I was using a GS600 to power the 980 ti and it ran just fine. But you dont want your PSU running under 90-100% loads consistently, its just a matter of wearing it down and a PSU is something you shouldnt be upgrading often and you do want some head room for whatever upgrades your going to make in the future.
