I5-4690k @ 4.5ghz 1.2v
Msi gaming Gtx 970 @ +180core, +500mem +50mv
Asrock extreme4 motherboard
2x4gb g.skill sniper ddr3-1600
XFX XTR 550W power supply
Nvidia 347.88 drivers

I've run prime95 for a couple hours at 1.85v without failure (I brought it up because of the bf4 crashes, to no avail) and the Heaven benchmark at +30mv (again brought up due to BF4)

Now to the problem: my computer would randomly shut off and restart (it's been set to restart upon power cutoff in the UEFI, in case that is relevant) when playing BF4 only. No other games, intensive or not intensive, causes random crashes. These crashes seem to be completely random. Sometimes none in a day, sometimes 3. The lights in my pc don't turn off, not even the led logo of the graphics card. The screens do go black and go into power saving mode though.

Any and all suggestions as to why this happens and methods to find out why or how to fix it would be much appreciated. I'm currently on vacation and can't test anything for about a week so please list all suggestions so I can test when I return. Thanks!

Change you Acpi in your bios, please read.

Set up a power scheme in windows.
If you are sure its not your graphics card shutting the system down dues to high temps, or the bios system settings to do with your cpu based on what degrees it reaches.

Make sure the trigger for board shut down of c/f is set at a value above what your cpu reaches in windows under load.
Last of all it could be driver related.
If you had a prior graphics card in the system you should of cleaned all of the information and old drivers out for older graphics cards used with this.

Then hop to the Nvidia website and re download...
Ok. I know you are not home. But there is something that needs to be tested to guide us to at least some kind of idea what is going on.

When you get home, I would like you to reset the GPU to its default settings. All 3 of them. And then play BF4. And see if any resets occur.

See if the black screens and system hang stop.

Since you did a stress test of cpu and Gpu, it would suggest either power state modes set in bios, and windows power config options.
or old drivers ect causing a crash n system lock up.
