I have an old I3-2100 cpu, and my graphics card is the AMD 7750. I know i need new hardware(for gaming), but Im not sure if a new graphics card (which might cause a bottleneck?) or a new 2nd gen cpu will give me better performance. I might get a gtx 970, but I dont know if that would "work" with my older parts.......

The most important question is, is the new CPU you plan on buying compatible with your mobo? Normally I suggest people to upgrade the CPU if mobo is compatible. Just take into mind the fact of removing all bottleneck, you'll need ATLEAST a decent i5.
graphics card is the easiest thing to upgrade. Even if you have to buy a new mobo, upgrade your CPU first, there's no point in having a bad ads component when the brain/heart of computer is weak

If you upgrade your GPU the CPU will bottleneck the GPU a lot.

Get a better CPU and then later on when you have more money, you can upgrade your GPU.
