I have a Seagate 1 TB External Hard Drive with nearly 900 GB of irreplacable data.I dont have an UPS and there was a power failure and the Pc shut down while I was copying files to the Disk. Now whenever I connect the drive it shows as Local Disk (L: ) and it prompts me to format the disk.I really need the data so is there any way to recovering the data from the disk or fix the problem?
I tried using L: /R and L: chkdsk but it always shows 'Crc Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)'. The drive is shown in Device Manager and Disk Management as a 931 GB Partition. Please help.

Hey there, aritzzz.

So you've tried this method: http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Cyclic-Redundancy-Check-Error? If "no", go ahead and try it again. You could try performing it with a different computer and a different USB cable, just in case. If that doesn't prove useful (it you get the CRC error again), I'd recommend that you try accessing the drive via Linux Live CD/USB, to see if it's properly recognized and if you can get to your data or try by using data recovery software: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html.
You could also download the manufacturer's diagnostics tool to see what's the situation with the drive.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
