Can I use a 3pin fan on the 2pin fan header on the power supply?

Hi my PSU fan is kinda loud so I want to switch the fan to a Corsair AF120. The only problem is that it is a 3 pin fan and the PSU fan header is 2 pin. I was just wondering if I am able to directly plug the fan into the header leaving one end hanging over the edge of the connector? And is it safe to do so? because I don't want to snip the cables and solder the cables back together.

Thanks in advance.

First of all it would void your Psu's warranty if it's not in warranty you can try lubricating the psu's fan with 1 or 2 drops of machine oil ( don't use WD40) & if that don't solves the issue the fan needs to be replaced well if you could put that 3pin connector in a way that the black ( ground ) wire & red ( 5volts) wire fits & the yellow wire extends of the side it will work but how ever sometimes the 2 pin power supply's fan header is box shaped & does not allow larger connectors to fit so you'll either need use a 3 pin to 2 pin adapter or do soldering
