I'm trying to run Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit from an SM951 drive on ASRock Z97 Extreme6/3.1
I have:
ASRock Z97 Extreme6/3.1 with Bios 1.30 (latest available for the "/3.1" version of the board)
i7-4790k
Sata DVD
16gb Ram
Everything I read states that I need to update the bios to at least the 2.04 version. The problem is that I can't get 2.04 (or later) to install on the motherboard. I have tried the instant flash utility & I have tried installing the bios from Windows (Windows installed on a conventional SSD).
While installing form a (fat32) thumbdrive I get "no bios file found"
While installing form Windows I get "Bios file not compatible with your motherboard"
Please help.... I am desperately trying to get this machine up and running. I'll go to Windows 8.1 if I have to, but I'd prefer Windows 7 if at all possible. I have read posts where either was possible, after the bios update, but since I can't get the bios to update, I'm stuck for either install
