New graphic card - stuck on HP logo screen

Hi, before I begin anything, I'd like to say that I am very VERY new to all this Hardware stuff, so I might seem a bit stupid sometimes(also, English not being my first language, I may end up using the wrong terms).

Now that I said that, here's my problem : I bought a GTX 970 by Gigabyte because I felt it was time to upgrade my poor little 4 years old computer.
I also bought a new alimentation(?,not sure it's the right word) by Corsair since my old one wasn't good enough for the graphics card, it is now 550 instead of 460.
They're both put in correctly in the computer and it boots just fine(everything works, all the fans are spinning) but won't go anywhere after the HP logo screen, it beeps 3 times(with about 30sec between each of the beeps) and then it says stuck on the black screen with the white blinking "_".
It stays like that until I turn it off.

It boots normally without any problem when I try that with the old card as well as without any card.

I made my research and everything should be compatible, so I'm not sure what's wrong.

I am under Windows 7.
My computer is a HP Pavilion, this exact model.

I have tried updating the BIOS but it didn't seem to change anything.

Thank you.

Solution
Could be a power supply issue, that is not the best quality you can get for a big video card, could be a PCIe slot issue due to PCIe revision or could be a bad video card.

Update the BIOS on the computer, if it still does not work, see if you can borrow a known good power supply or return that one and get a slightly better quality one to rule that one out. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

If you want to stick with the VS model, maybe go up another 50-100 watts to make sure it had enough headroom and is not stressing the components.

Are you sure you have the card in the right slot? the first one highest up?

Do you have the 6pin and 8pin from the psu connected? could you also give a link to the psu you bought?

psu= power supply that you said is now 550W

As I said before, I already tried to update the BIOS, but I'm not sure it even succeeded, seeing as it didn't change anything.

Which psu would be more advantageous(money-wise) for me to buy instead? One of those on the list or the same model but with 50 or 100 more watts?

Thank you for helping me out.

The best quality ones are on the tier 1 and 2 lists, but that may not be the issue, it may just be the HP motherboard can't run that particular card. Without testing the card in another system and/or another video card in yours, replacing the power supply is only one step in troubleshooting to nail down where the issue is.

Small(or maybe big) update : I found out where the problem was.
The 6pin and 8pin I connected were not the good ones, those were probably supposed to be put on additionnal graphic cards but since I'm a bit stupid I used those to connect the graphic card to the power supply.

I tried connecting those coming from the psu instead and it worked just fine.

Well, not completely fine, I had to reinitialize the CMOS...thing(not sure what the English term is) but then it worked.
I guess I'll put this as 'solved' then?
