hi i am not a motherboard expert can someone please help me pick which motherboard. i dont know which chipset is better, which hyper transport is better and which on has better features for gaming.they will both have windows 8.1. with the asus i will have a single stick of 8gb ddr3 1600 and the msi will have a dual channel ddr3 1600 2x4gb. both will have a sapphire r9 280 and a amd fx6300. will the dual channel ram vs the single stick really affect gaming that and which motherboard is better for overall gaming

Solution
Hi m8. If this is going to be for gaming, i would suggest ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0.

The reasons are actually pretty simple.
1) You will have 4 Ram (up to 32GB) slots instead of MSI's 2 slots (up to 16GB).
2)Asus has RAID 0,1,5,10 support; while MSI has no RAID support at all.
3)Asus has integrated graphics in case of anything.
4)Asus has more advaced audio chipset (Realtek ALC892 8 channel) than MSI (Realtek ALC887 7.1 channel).
5)Asus has more SATA, USB2.0, eSATA, Legacy PCI Slots, PCIe 2.0 x16 Slots and Firewire etc.
6)For last; Asus is always more reliable (uses higher quality materials with its products) brand than MSI.

I hope this helps. If you have anymore questions you can ask me via PM.

it helped a lot but out of the 4 ram slots i am only going to use 1 running 8gb single channel because of a deal on newegg is that going to affect my performance a whole lot (by that i mean like 5+ fps missing)

Yes you are going to use 1 of the slots for now; but what will happen one day if you wish to add more punch to your build? If you go for MSI fır nıw, you will go for 2x4 as you have mentioned and if you want to upgrade your rams from 8gb to 16gb you will have to buy a new set of 2x8gb.. but if you go for 1 stick on 4 slot asus; you will be able to add up to 24gb's more when the time comes and also you wont be throwing those 2x4 rams to trash :) In my opinion, if your as far as your budget allows; think the fact of upgrading in some future time. Going for 4 slot Asus rather than MSI 2 slot will prevent you to stuck with 2x4gb's and will save you money in the future :)
