I just upgraded my motherboard from a Gigabyte 575M-D3H to a Gigabyte z97-HD3 and also my CPU from a Intel i3-3245 to a i5-4690k. But now my mic wont work correctly. It makes me sound like a robot and gives off a a lot of static. I've tried a lot of different combinations of sound settings but to no avail. My headphone speakers work just fine its just my mic. I've tried both back and front headphone jacks and neither work. Could I have plugged a wire into the wrong place or something or is it incompatible or something? Thank you in advance for the help.

P.S It all worked fine before I upgraded my motherboard and CPU.

Specs:
Motherboard: GIGABYTE z97-HD3 (rev 1.0)
Cpu: Intel I5-4690K LGA1150
Video Card: GTX 750 Ti
Ram: 8Gb

(sorry if this wasn't a very detailed specs list or a detailed explanation)

Solution
Try reseating the cables for the front audio jacks. Also, make sure the plug is pushed in all the way(you may have to use force).

Thank you for answering but after some more fiddling around with stuff, I think it was the audio/mic splitter that came with the headphones. I tested both audio and mic separately. finding that both work fine alone but wehen connected to the splitter, it would mess up.
